Lougheed Area Pathfinder and Ranger Galiano Event

Lougheed Area Pathfinders, Rangers, and Trex are invited to join us for a fun day-long backpacking experience on Mount Galiano, on beautiful Galiano Island! Participants will learn basic hiking, camping, wilderness safety, first aid, navigation/orienteering, shelter building, backcountry cooking, and traditional First Peoples ecological knowledge, all while gaining leadership and camping skills. 

Cost includes round trip ferry rides, the bus to and from Mount Galiano, and the day program hosted by the Galiano Conservancy Association. Participants are asked to bring their own nut-free lunch and snacks. 

Itinerary: 

8:55am - Ferry departs Tsawwassen, Vancouver 

9:50am - Ferry arrives at Sturdies Bay, Galiano Island 

10:00 - 10:30am - Load bus and drive to Mt. Galiano 

10:30 - 10:45am - Welcome and eat snack 

10:45 - 12:00pm - Hike up Mt. Galiano 

12:00 - 1:00pm - Lunch and exploration time 

1:00 - 2:30pm - Shelter building, wilderness first aid, and compass skills 

2:30 - 2:45pm - Snack break 

2:45 - 3:45pm - Hike down Mt. Galiano and wrap up 

3:45 - 4:00pm - Load bus and drive to Sturdies Bay Ferry Terminal 

4:50pm - Ferry departs for Tsawwassen, Vancouver 

5:45pm - Ferry arrives in Tsawwassen, Vancouver 

Kit list: 

• Sturdy, close-toe footwear 
• Toilet paper and hand sanitizer (nature is the bathroom at Mt. Galiano - no outhouses/public facilities) 
• Paper bags to carry out used TP, compost, and other garbage. Pack in, pack out! 
• Weather appropriate clothing (rain or shine) 
• Rain jacket or wind breaker 
• Warm layers (sweater, thermal under layers, long-sleeve shirts, pants) 
• Clothes for hot weather (eg. shorts, t-shirt) 
• Sun protection 
• Sunscreen
• Sunglasses
• Hat
• Personal medications (Eg. Epipen, medical bracelets, insulin, etc) 
• A backpack to carry everything in!

Individual Registrations (Parents registering Youth) - please pay by credit card at check out 

Group Registrations (Guiders registering a unit) - please select the "mailbox" icon at checkout and we will do a unified banking transfer
