You will have the ability to select which training(s) you'd like to attend. All training will be held online via zoom.
You can select as many as you are available for. It is suggested that you complete Module 1 before taking Module 2 and Module 2 before taking Module 3.
Module 1: Intro to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Thursday May 2 from 6:00 - 8:00pm
Explore basic DEI definitions and concepts and links them to GGC's Girl-Driven approach, helping you start cultivating a diverse and inclusive unit.
Module 2: Identity and Bias Awareness
Sunday May 5 from 6:00 - 8:00pm
This module continues the exploration of DEI concepts and definitions. It also explores bias, assumptions, and stereotypes and the ways in which these can appear in Guiding contexts. Learn how to start challenging these in yourself, your units, and your communities.
Module 3: Safe and Inclusive Spaces
Thursday May 16 from 6:00 - 8:00pm
This builds on knowledge gained in the first two sessions and explores two ways of approaching out programming and events. Learn how strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches can change how you plan, execute, and evaluate your programs.
Cultural Appropriation
Tuesday May 7 from 7:00 - 9:00pm
Cultural Appropriation is a term that we hear a lot about but which we're not always sure about. Come discuss how to define it, how to recognize it, and learn about how to practice cultural appreciation instead.
Secularism in the Guiding Context
Tuesday May 14 from 7:00 - 9:00pm
Come discuss why Guiding is a secular organization and learn some helpful tips and tricks to create a unit space that is welcoming and celebratory of all cultures. This is a great space to discuss winter celebrations and traditions, accommodating those who have religious needs and other secularism-related questions.
