Activities
Note - activities are weather dependent and subject to change at the discretion of the facility.
Wilderness Survival Skills
Working in a cooperative team situation, participants will understand and practice some important aspects of basic survival techniques in the outdoors. Each team will be challenged to construct a small cooking fire and/or shelter from natural materials. This program encourages a "no-trace" camping philosophy as well as the safety aspects of preparation and planning for a successful outdoor experience. This program is fun, outdoorsy, and team-oriented.
Canoeing
Participants will learn the basics of canoeing through hands on training, games and activities. Parts of the boats and equipment will be reviewed along with safety equipment, rules and expectations before taking to the water to practice paddle skills on our sheltered inland lake. This program is challenging, engaging, fun.
Low Ropes
Learners work in groups to solve a variety of defined challenges. Team success depends upon a combination of cooperation, communication and physical and mental efforts from all individuals. Each group dynamic is designed to build a cooperative group spirit and at the same time instill self confidence in the learner, and a mutual respect for team-mates.
Nature Hike
This program emphasizes the importance of biodiversity to the health of the planet. Hands-on activities may include identifying and measuring tree growth, sampling for aquatic organisms, and searching for wildlife. This program is: nature-focused, education, engaging.
Campfire
Many groups enjoy the tradition of beginning or ending their visit at the campfire circle. This evening program allows participants to take part in and contribute their own songs, skits, games and stories. They will also have an opportunity to roast marshmallows and reflect on their trip. This program is: fun, cooperative, outdoorsy.
Program Area and Theme Connections
