Activities
Note - activities are weather dependent and subject to change at the discretion of the facility.
Team Building Initiatives
Through targeted games and activities participants will be pushed and challenged to work as a team and develop important new skills. Trust, communication and teamwork are common outcomes of these activities. This program is highly adaptable to target almost any characteristic of group dynamics, personal development or social inclusion.
Nature Walk
Nature hikes and earth walks both encourage the exploration of nature using different senses. A nature hike focuses more on identification and facts, and an earth walk focuses more on hands-on exploration of the natural world in new, exciting and unexpected ways.
Quinzhee Building
A Quinzhee is a traditional Canadian snow shelter that is made from a large pile of loose snow which is shaped then hollowed. This is in contrast to an igloo, which is built up from blocks of hard snow, and a snow cave, constructed by digging into the snow.
Orienteering
Using a compass and a list of directions, participants learn how to use the navigation tool to find their way to various checkpoints around the site.
Snowshoeing
In the past, snowshoes were necessary for fur traders and others who needed to get around in deep snow. Today's snowshoes are used mainly for recreation, but forest rangers (and outdoor centre staff) often require them to reach areas not easily accessible to vehicles. Students learn basic snowshoeing techniques and a little bit of history. We explore the 77 acres of field and forest on snowshoes, while participating in a series of games and activities.
Large Group Games
This activity is a great way to get your entire group involved in a fun game outside. Some of the games might include capture the flag, sardines, stones, etc.
Program Area and Theme Connections
All fully serviced Outdoor Experiences have been strategically planned and connected to GGC's Program. Use the table below as a guide when looking at which program themes and areas are covered by activities at this Outdoor Experience.
