Description:

Come out and enjoy a weekend of tenting with fellow Guiders.

If you have completed the OAL indoor session in person or online and are looking for more information on camping in tents with your unit, please join us for the weekend. You will be sleeping in tents, cooking and eating outside for the weekend, using the tents and tarps/kitchen shelters we bring and set up. Sites are booked in the no-hydro part of the Provincial Park, a short walk to the comfort station and where cars will be parked. A water tap with tested water is close by.

To help you pack for the weekend:  The Kit List

Please bring a completed H.2 with you to the training.

We will be covering:

  • Kitchen
  • Cooking and cleanup
  • Various ways of cooking
  • Tents and Tarps
  • Games and more

Guiders taking the training will be camping in a tent for two nights in variable weather.  You will have Safe Guide and OAL Indoor camping and will have reviewed the Outdoor Activity Leadership Guide to camping before the weekend.

Please arrive by 7 p.m. on Friday, May 9th, as that is when the first session starts.  No dinner is planned.  You will have your tent pitched by that time.  There will be a hot drink and snack.

Plan to leave by 10 a.m. on Sunday.  You can leave by 8 p.m. on Saturday if required; you will just need to inform us before the weekend.

There will be a request for specific equipment to be brought, which will include:

  • Tents for you to sleep in, dining shelter or two.
  • Patrol boxes (1-2)
  • Propane stove (1-2)
  • Other cooking methods as required.

Cooking methods can include propane, wood, charcoal (foil, dutch oven, and box ovens), buddy burner stoves, and more.

The booked sites are 137 and 138.

You will need to pay for two nights parking.  If you can, plan to share driving and the cost of driving and parking.  Expect to be parking a short walk from the site.

There will be lots of communication with participants before the training, just as you would spend lots of time with your girls preparing for a camp.
